Ok, so I don’t have to keep telling this story… Here’s the scoop on why I have weird hours and take tons of medication. On 18 May 2003 I was involved in a motorcycle accident that resulted in my having a torn Aorta and perforated lung (my term, I forget theirs), I had to have an emergency Tharocotomy, to repair the damage. During my hospital stay , I decided I’d walk to phys therapy instead of letting the tech wheel me, and also, being the silly stubborn ditz I am, decided to walk down the stairs instead of taking an elevator. You can guess what happened pretty easily, yup, I fell down em when I got lightheaded, and tore open all the internal sutures and repairs. So, after another operation and bouts of Septicemia and staff infections due to my fall, developing RSDS (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome) a sweet little neurological disorder that causes your sympathetic nerves to transmit pain signals instead of the info they’re supposed to send, and 509 days of splendid bliss in the relaxing comfort of SICU with oh so lovely Dominatrixes Kelly and Dedee (my physical therapists) I was able to go home. Where I an now regaled in glorious comfort with my new friends messieurs Fentanyl, Methadone, Percocet, Elavil, Robaxin, Cyclobenzaprine, Omeprazole, Dalmane and Chloral hydrate. They’re totally unwanted and quite annoying guests, and seem to be immune to my demands to leave me the fuck alone. They love to inflict cute ‘lil joys into my day such as memory loss, nausea, dizziness (see I HAVE a reason) and general annoyance with the world. Other than that they’re quite proficient protectors, and keep the pain monsters at bay; at least when I remember to call them! So, I suffer their presence with extreme reluctance, and the hope that they visit me as little a possible during the day.
